The map viewer

Each of the game's fifteen worlds, maps/a.map to maps/o.map, is here as one strip at full scale, drawn from the files by this book's build: every map record with the draw flag puts its shape in place, the enemy ships' too, over the sky and, from the horizon's row as it lies at a mission's start, the sea. What a pass adds to the strip, the waves, the islands' ground, the flags and the lift beside their records, the guns and the aircraft, is left out.

The map viewer is drawn by a small script of this site from data its build made, and needs JavaScript.

Under the strip a ruler gives each record its eight pixels, marks the records with the draw flag, colours what lies under each by its low bits and names the markers, the ships and the airfields. Point at a column, or click it and move on with the arrow keys, to read its record's sixteen bits as chapter 13 takes them apart; how a record becomes a place on the screen is its section "From the world to the screen". The pictures are the game's art: they belong to the authors and publisher of Wings of Fury, Broderbund (1990), and are kept here for preservation without any right to them being granted.
